Get Good Standing

What is a Certificate of Status?

"Certificate of Status" is the name California, Florida, and a handful of other states use for what most call a Certificate of Good Standing. It's the same document, confirming your business entity is properly registered and current, just with a different label.

Certificate of Status vs. Certificate of Good Standing

Same document, same purpose, different name. Whether your state calls it a Certificate of Status, Certificate of Existence, Certificate of Legal Existence, or Subsistence Certificate, they all confirm:

  • · Your business entity exists and is properly registered with the state
  • · Your entity is current with annual reports, franchise tax, or other compliance items
  • · Your entity is authorized to conduct business in the state

California and Florida both use "Certificate of Status", and both states issue these certificates through online portals (bizfileOnline for California, Sunbiz.org for Florida). Florida's electronic Certificate of Status is one of the most accepted and trusted business documents in the country.
